Hillsborough Community College moved to Brandon in the mid 1970s and more indications of the continued growth were apparent with the building of Brandon Community Hospital and the Brandon Cultural Center (now the Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association).

Brandon has numerous strip malls and Brandon Town Center, one of the largest regional malls in Florida.

Brandon experienced even more rapid growth in the 1980s.  I-75 began to bring traffic through the Brandon area in 1986, which dramatically changed the community and helped its population reach approximately 100,000 with over 2,500 businesses by 1988.
